About Us

Location

Chorleywood House Estate is located off the A404 in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire. The postcode is WD3 5SL, but please don’t drive to the House itself. Entrance to the Estate is by the Parish Office, opposite the Cricket Club, and not at the traffic lights.

A leaflet describing our location in more detail, plus things to do and see in the grounds of the Estate and some circular walks, is available for download as a PDF file (800k).

Our Mission

The Friends of Chorleywood House Estate was formed in 1998 (under the original name Chorleywood House Estate Community Partnership) with the aim of helping Three Rivers District Council to restore and improve the fields, parkland and woods that comprise the Chorleywood House Estate and to conserve it for future generations.
The Friends also pledges:

  • to create and maintain freely accessible amenity areas within the Estate
  • to promote and encourage public awareness of the Estate though publicity, consultation, groups of volunteers and liaison with interested organisations
  • to act as an umbrella organisation, drawing on the expertise of members to facilitate restoration of the grounds
  • to assist, advise and support Three Rivers District Council in drawing up the Management Plan for the Estate
  • to apply for grants from relevant organisations to help fund the above objectives.

Volunteering – The Green Gym

We have Volunteer Groups working every first and third Tuesday of the month. Come and meet fellow members of the Friends and get stuck in to a bit of light work – we welcome all efforts, however large or small. Why pay subscriptions to expensive gyms when you can get the exercise in good company and enjoy the results of your efforts? We tackle different tasks and areas of the Estate at different times so for details of specific activities on particular days do call Tim Venner on 01923 284320

Membership

The Friends welcomes all new members, particularly anyone who can offer their expertise in areas such as applying for grants and funding or advising on botanical restoration or who can serve on the Committee or assist with the production of the crucial 10-year Management Plan. We ask for a £5 annual membership fee to cover costs such as the production of a Newsletter and postage. For more information, please get in touch with Membership Secretary Tim Venner on 01923 284320 or at Fairlight, Shire Lane, Chorleywood, Herts., WD3 5NR. You can also email him via the Contact Us page.
